Facebook chat/message problem?

Whenever someone messages me on chat when I'm offline, the chat box doesn't pop up nor does it give me a notification in my messages when I log in but there will be a new message by that person when I check.

So basically it doesn't tell me that someone messaged me, I gotta check manually.
It was working fine before and now it doesn't want to lol. It gets a bit annoying having to check.

Anyone having this problem or know a solution?

WOW - Yes i didnt even think of that, if someone is checking your notifications for you there wouldnt be any flags. Props to that answer! Change your password


Hard to say without really digging into it, facebook changes so much from week to week. do you use different browsers? try chrome and IE and see if it happens on both. if not you have a browser issue, if it does, you have something going on in the settings for FB. I would bet its a browser security switch or something of that nature. use another to troubleshoot. Chrome is nice and simple for this.

Check that whether any other who knows your password have accessed your FB account. I think you should change your login password. Good luck....

Is Facebook chat linked with any other application? For example, I have Facebook chat linked with Windows Live Messenger, and when people chat to me, MSN picks up the chat, and the chat bar on Facebook disappears, and unread messages comes up as an unread message in the notification area's.

Sometimes, Facebook has a few bugs where things don't just work properly, like you can't post etc, so sometimes you need to do a hard refresh which is pressing Control+F5

It's most likely something that is similar for other facebook chat issues recently.. They most likely changed a few things server side and are working on resolving coding issues that are negatively impacting the desired performance of their update. There has been FB chat issues in regards to the games as well due to the fact that it blanks out the game if you have a chat dialog open at the same time as the game is open until you minimize the chat window.
