How to turn of 3g internet on iphone and motorola dexter?

Ok plz help tmr im on holiday and vacation. Im bringing my son and we both will bring our phones. We both of data and internet. He has an android phone and i have an iphone. My son likes to use my iphone apps but when he plays the iphone games they have ads and sometimes i don't want my phone to connect to data lets say if i get a facebook notification. Do i just turn off 3g? Once i turn off 3g, that means i wont get any facebook notifications which means i wont connect to my 3g internet? cause i dont want to pay long distant

Go to the setting, look for wireless connections then search for 3g settings. there you go. (I think... because all settings considering 3g and internet access falls into settings... )
