How can I add symbols to my username on twitter?

Everytime I try to add a symbol, twitter won't allow me to, but some of my followers have symbols in their username. Does anyone know how they do it?

If you are on windows go to start->run type charmap. It will open the character map. Find the key code for the character and use it anywhere you want. You can copy it and paste or use the alt key.
