Twitter noob needs some help?

So I recently started using Twitter, and I was wondering, when someone sends you a message, so for me:

@itsemilyhoward blah blah blah

How do I know I have received it? Because at the moment the only way I know is by clicking on their Twitter and scrolling down to see. Surely there is an easier way?

go to your Homepage, and on the right side you can see the search bar, ,just type in @itsemilyhoward or you can just click on your username under that Home button

yeah there is! on the side where it says how many followers u have, if u scroll down, its ganna say home, @itsemilyhoward, direct messages,favourites and retweets click on @itsemilyhoward, then its ganna show eveyones messages to u! =)
