A band doesn't suddenly get popular out of nowhere unless it's a boy band, which as you know are garbage.

You just gotta play shows and make yourself known, well one thing my band did was post and advertisement on facebook. It costs money but it works, we've gotten 2000 facebook likes already.

Create awareness by:

1. Create a website, nothing to expensive but nothing tacky either. Link your different web accounts back to this site. Put up your music/lyrics/pictures/videos, make a 'Contact' page so people that are looking to book you can get in touch. You have to start off small to make it big.

2. Create a SoundCloud account and up load songs and demos. Comment regularly and do some covers of other famous artist as well.

3. Create a Twitter account. The good thing about a twitter account is that it's free. Write a good bio that represents you. You must put up your website address. Tweet regularly giving news, songs, picture etc. Follow a good number of people - a lot of new start off bands raise awareness by following a couple of thousand people who are more than likely to 'follow-back' - Direct Message people and ask them to check out your music on, for example, SoundCloud. Tweet people and ask them to help raise awareness. Also, there are some celebrities from famous bands that actually try and help bands to get their foot on the music ladder. For example Tom Clarke from the Enemy (@tomclarke_enemy) retweets unsigned bands.

4. Create a You Tube account. Again, just upload some of your music, road trips, behind-the-scenes.

5. Get the band into a recording studio and get some quality tunes recorded. There is no point in starting a band if you don't have at least a demo to show for it.

6. Speaking of Demos try sending some of your work to various labels (smaller labels are probs best since boy bands and trashy female singers seem to be all the rage at larger labels).

7. Create an image for yourself. Pick a particular genre of music and stick to it. For example, if you want to be an Indie/Alternative Rock band do not wear heavy black makeup, chains or leather.

8. Be original. Of late, there has been a lot of bands appear which are just like the last, in other words, a tad boring. Check out this band Howler, they have recently surfaced out of America, and their post-punk/garage music has been a huge hit with NME, and bands that have been a huge hit with NME tend to go on and do well (examples: Arctic Monkeys and The Vaccines).

9. Create a Facebook account.

10. Create a Myspace account.

11. When using the internet a lot of the time you can have the option to use 'tags' (on Youtube for example) these are not a primary search method but they DO work! So use tags at every opportunity you get.

12. Create a blog. It would be interesting to see some music talents blogging more photos and insight into their day-to-day life.

13. Play at local clubs. Most clubs nowadays have some nights where bands and artists can play for free, this is a great way for music scouts to discover some up and coming talent.

14. Work hard. It's the only way you'll get to the top.

15. As you progress with your music career, make sure to note contacts. Anyone who knows a club manager/other bands/musicians etc.

16. Enjoy what you do. There is absolutely no point in forming a band and not enjoying the music.

Hope this helps! Smile

Most people go with the Illuminati. They sell their souls to them for fortune and fame if you ever get the chance don't do it. They are evil. But i guess you could use Facebook and spread round to friends ask them to share your band Find random people online and send it to them. Youtube is pretty good as you can instantly send your video easily to anyones account. Try to play your band at revenues and contest as this will get your name know to more people, Hope this helps
