Shouldn't the US Congress be allowed to take all of the Social Security money?
Why doesn't Congress take all of the Social Security money received yearly to bring down the debt ceiling? Isn't paying off the debt more impotrant than people's retirement? After all what are retired people doing to help the country?

Why not, they are the ones who cleaned out the social security trust fund to create a fake surplus...You can't really trust anything they do but the people keep re-electing them -- the way I see it the American voter is getting exactly what he deserves.

Social Security belongs to We the People, not the government. I hope you realize this is one of the most outrageous ideas I've seen put fourth. It's almost as bad as the Republican plan to privatize Social Security and invest it in the Stock Market.

Well, for ONE reason....the Social Security Act makes it ILLEGAL to do that.

Bad question as the retired paid much more in SS and taxes than they will ever get back. Until Congress and Obama and all the rest cut their fancybig salaries in half and reject all their little perks, they had better leave Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid alone totally. And keep all funds here in the US and bring back our soldiers worldwide. If these countries want our help then let them pay us for it like in oil and gas to help keep our costs down. Ground Air Force One for awhile and eliminate security for Politicians families
