What are some of the major social issues going on in the United States at the moment?
Can someone tell me what's going on in the US?
I'm an American teenager who lives in Japan, and I want to know what's going on in my country, but it's too difficult to read the paper every single day.
So... can someone please sum up a few of the major social issues?
Can you tell me stuff that's going on in the United States only? Like, not general issues worldwide.

The rising cost of health care.
The threat of inflation.
Fears about the job market, combined with many people losing their jobs due to the crisis.

The President is still trying to get the Senate to work on a health care solution and they're not going for it. The big companies are sending rabble rousers to town hall meetings across the nation, they're putting out false info about "death panels that will kill old people" and all sorts of false info - and the shame is that so many idiots are believing it! Can't believe people can't think, read, and make decisions for themselves and use common sense to see that these statements simply can't be true. What a mess. I'm a person who's been denied health insurance because of prior illnesses but finally found a state-run insurance that had to accept me - but we pay $660 per month in premiums, have to meet a deductible, and some of the medications under the plan cost $70! It's a horrible thing trying to pay the premiums as we're retired and have a limited income. I have several illnesses so am not able to work and my husband is 70 (I'm not old enough to get Medicare).
