What does EST and GMT mean... ?

My favorite band will be answering Twitter questions live at 2.00pm EST/7pm GMT. If I live in Estonia, what time it would be? I really can't miss that :/

EST and GMT are time zones. EST is Eastern time and GMT is Greenwich Mean Time.


Estonia is definitely not EST time. EST is American/Canadian

That should be 9:00 pm in Estonia. I have taken into account Daylight Saving Time, so I'm pretty sure that's accurate.

EST is Eastern Standard Time (UTC-05:00). It is the time used between November and March on east coast US & Canada. GMT is Greenwich Mean Time, also known as Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) and is used in several countries, notably the UK during roughly the same period EST is used in the US

It is NOT currently Eastern Standard Time right now - its Eastern Daylight Time (UTC-04:00), so your band has got that bit wrong. Luckily, Estonia is in Eastern European Summer Time (UTC+03:00) also, so the time difference is unaffected. Estonia is 7 hours ahead of east coast US

In short, 2pm EDT is 9pm EEST

Too bad for the folks giving the information that they only gave the abbreviations. Better to give the city or at least the region.

Here's the really bad thing... Many people think GMT is what the time is in London. But in summer, London and GMT are one hour off. So if they really meant EST/GMT, then it would be 10PM in Estonia. But if they were sloppy and meant 2PM in New York and 7PM in London, then it would be 9PM Estonia.

EST is Eastern Standard time HOWEVER it could be Eastern Standard Time in the United States or Australia, Because Australia also has an Eastern Standard Time.

GMT is Greenwich Mean Time > Greenwich England (London) Time zone ZERO the Prime Meridian.

Estonia is in time Zone GMT +1 or one hour EAST of GMT. Add one hour to GMT to get the time in Estonia.

EST U.S. is in time zone GMT - 5 or five hours WEST of GMT. Subtract five hours from GMT to get EST.
