You must take your employment authorization card and immigration documents to the nearest Social Security Administration office and apply for a Social Security card. It takes about 3 - 4 weeks for SSA to verify the immigration info, process the application, and issue your new card.
After you receive the card, you may start working - IF you can find a job. The real unemployment rate is 22%, has been 20% or more for over a year, and over 31 million Americans are looking for work. The number of jobs actually DECLINED last month (again!), after eliminating the bogus birth-death adjustment and phony Census-job info (some Census workers have been hired & fired 5 times to count as 5 jobs created!). And all those "Census workers" will be back on the job market next month too. Sorry to be so gloomy, but it is best you know the truth of the job situation in the US. |
