Is technology a form of evolution?

The best way I heard it described was within the context of twitter messages.

"A single thought can be received by millions of people thousands of miles apart from each other."

In this sense, I find humor in the philosophy that standard evolution was moving too slow for humans, so technology was our "go to" engine for accelerated performance.

Yes, just not biological evolution. But there are many other types of evolution.

Depends on your definition of evolution.
If you believe it means "development: a process in which something passes by degrees to a different stage (especially a more advanced or mature stage)" then yes it is development so it is evolution.
If you believe it means "(biology) the sequence of events involved in the evolutionary development of a species or taxonomic group of organisms" then no it is not because it is researched and developed, it isn't exactly going through natural selection.

while it is true that technology has evolved, the word "evolution" is a lot like a loaded gun.. I am not too sure what you mean by "standard evolution" but if you mean Darwinian evolution or perhaps the evolution of species, then no, there is no relation. Many many things evolve, have cycles, and undergo change and growth, so please try to find other less "charged" and contentious words to describe them then "evolution"... that just brings out the fight in a lot of people.

No, because natural selection is not involved, and it's not a genetic or even a biological process.

But your second part is very perceptive and true. Evolution is not the only process going on, especially in humans. The brain has developed so extensively that conscious choices and manipulative actions by humans now dominate the drivers of change, overwhelming the purely evolutionary processes. Yes, technology, beginning with the opposing thumb that enabled us to use our intelligence to manipulate our environment.
