Can you perform a significantly rebellious act on Facebook?
Is it possible to perform a truely rebellious act on popular social networking sites like Facebook?
I don't just mean using Facebook or Twitter to insight a coup or encourage revolutionary activity (as in the Arab Spring). We all know that these sites are effective communication networks. That is clear. I'm referring to the recent posts that people have been putting up on their walls that express their opposition to Facebook's--supposedly new--privacy policies. I mean, is it really effective to write on Facebook: "Dear Facebook, I don't like that your new policy allows you to reproduce all the content that I voluntarily put up on Facebook. Stop it!"?? Isn't this like saying, "Dear Parents, I know you own this house and that I live in it for free but you have no right to go into my room under any circumstance. Stop it!"? Ads |

No I think you'd have to email the Facebook team in order for them to take notice.

It is basically like the Parents thing. Saying to Facebook "We don't like how you do things!" Will result in a "Well you know the URL to Bebo don't you?" Until people actually leave then Facebook is sat there thinking "Shit, didn't actually expect anyone to leave. Now were losing money."

Since I have absolutely no respect for Facebook and people who advertise their lives for all to see, I think people should be aware of the facts. What you post on the internet is in the public domain. Post at your own risk. You deserve what you get. You have relinquished the right to complain.

No, it wont make any difference. If people are so worried about there personal details then why put them on the most global communication platform. The internet. People don't really care. They just like sounding off, making it sound like they know what they are talking about. Trying to look like a rebel. If you disagree with what someones doing. Then you don't join them and do it yourself or give them the opportunity to do it. I hate Facebook. Its a great idea which has been turned in to nothing more than a marketing tool. Your personal details are how it makes its money. If you hate it that much then leave.

That's stupid. Why would people post on the Internet something that they don't want others to see?

You can post whatever you wish to express your sentiments, but know that for as long as you are using their services, they are not subject to your whims.
You are subject to theirs. The only way you can twist their arms is by boycotting Facebook en masse. Issue an ultimatum to delete your accounts by the hundreds, thousands, millions, in unison. That will definitely get their attention. |
