How do celebrities distinguish mentions on twitter?

They must get hundreds, if not thousands of mentions every minute, especially when they have recently tweeted. But they seem to be able to respond to the same people (for example celebrity friends like @edgarwright and @simonpegg will have conversations).

So how do they sort through all the "drivel" to find the right ones? Is there some kind of setting on twitter or a plugin or do they literally have to simply find the tweet amongst them with Ctrl+F?
