You only have 48 hours to fill out a Mail Restore form before the messages are permanently deleted from Yahoo's server http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/cl...store.html
Also fill out a Contacts Restore http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/contact...store.html

Then you have do do all of the following
1 - make sure the alternate email address is still yours
2 - from your Inbox under Options > Mail Options > POP & Forwarding make sure your mails are not being forwarded to anyone else's address
3 - Find some way to inform everyone that you have been hacked (Facebook, Twitter, phone, etc) as the scammers will send them all an email claiming to be you in an emergency situation asking for them to send money through Western Union to help you out. it may claim you are overseas, or are in the hospital or have a sick family member and urgently need money
4 - If you used the same password for your email as you do for ANY other website (unfortunately 80% of people use the same email address and password for everything) you need to IMMEDIATELY change those passwords. The hackers know that most people use the same username and password and will try your login details on Ebay, Facebook, Paypal, Twitter, credit card or bank websites, etc, etc, etc
5 - If your email Inbox or folders contained any sensitive or financial information (online banking statements, Paypal receipts, credit card statements, etc) you need to immediately contact those companies to change your account name/number. The hackers will go through every email of yours looking for this type of info. They can make a fake ID in your name, go into any branch of your bank and empty your account with your account number found on a bank statement. They can purchase items on the phone or online using your credit card number or Paypal account.
