Do push notifications use up data usage on my phone?

If i receive a inbox/comment etc i will receive a push notification on my iphones screen (without clicking onto the facebook or twitter app)..
I was just wondering, if i dont click on the app, but receive the notification, will this take my internet data? If so, how much MB?

Push notifications are a few bytes only
not even KB.

and proper push noifications should only come when new mail arrives
NOT use up data 'checking' if some arrived.

if and when you open the mailbox, then is when the mail is "pull"ed down.

Anything done requiring internet over 3G/4G will be charged for. As far as how much, it depends on alot of things.
