How are these people adding me as contacts/ messaging me thru y!messenger?
I don't have yahoo messenger on this computer. But I see from my email inbox people add me; and they are even sending me messages. How are they finding me? I'm confused. I don't know who they are.

Hmm, that is strange. Especially since it says you don't allow IM on your page. You should just mark yourself as invisible so you don't have to deal with them. They're most likely creeps.

Click on your Yahoo Profile - the one that is hidden....and edit the details..obviously you have the Message me on Yahoo Messenger set as a link....you can edit your profile and put in there you do not want to be contacted on Yahoo Messenger....btw..your e-mail page has Yahoo chat on it.

Also you may want to edit the feature were people can e-mail you if you don't want to be bothered.

Even if you do not have Yahoo Messenger on that computer, you have a Yahoo Account and people can see that you have signed in, and some of them could be bots. The best thing to do if you do not use the chat feature of Yahoo Mail is to disable the chat feature or you can also make it so that only your contacts can send you messages.

A. What you need to do is locate where the chat is in Yahoo! Mail and where the status message is sign out of it which will make you Offline for chat.

1. For Yahoo! Classic Mail chat: it is located in a blue box on the left just change your status to Sign out of chat which will make you offline.

2. In the All-New Yahoo Mail you sign out of chat at the very top of the page to the right of where it says "Hi, your name" You will see a drop down arrow click and choose "Sign out of chat." Your status in for chat in Yahoo! Mail will change to offline and chat will be disabled.

For Yahoo! Classic Mail:

All-New Yahoo! Mail:

B. To make it so that strangers and bots cannot send you messages via the chat feature of Yahoo Mail follow these steps:
Click Options>>Mail Options>>Spam Category on the left. Look for "Blocked Chat IDs" section and tick "Block chat messages from anyone who is not in my Contacts Folder." Click Save Changes at the top.

It might be a good idea if you add a note to your Profile Page, where you have written about gays and homophobics, that you do not have IM.

Have you left your personal email address anywhere where you have been? Eg Myspace, Facebook, Twitter. It may be they are adding you through that if you don't know them.

It's hard to tell because your question doesn't give much detail.

um... buddy, I"m assuming you have Mail Beta.

Beta means you can chat inside mail.

But if you don't know who they are then you have a problem, make yourself invisible on the status bar.
