How are people finding me on twitter? Please help!?

Ok, so originally I created a twitter and my @(username) was my full name. I had my email listed too, (also the one I have listed on my facebook page). I also had my tweets set to private, but when i realized that people werent getting my tweets if they didnt follow me, i changed this setting back! (so now my tweets are public) I changed my username (so now it doesnt have my name OR any part of my name in it), I changed my email address too. My email was @aim.com and I changed it to the same email @aol.com (they go into the same inbox). I did not check the box that said people could search for me by email. I googled my name to see if people could find my twitter by searching for it, and they couldnt. But...people from school are starting to find me. When my tweets were blocked, I had requests but I ignored them. I thought that by changing these settings I could block people from ever finding me, but they somehow still are. I DO NOT have twitter set up to post on my facebook. I am just so confused, how the hell are people finding me! I really don't want to block my tweets, so for me that is not an option. I just don't know what to do..I dont want my classmates to follow me!

maybe others are telling them, you may have changed your account name, but if they chose to follow you changing your account name will not get rid of them, people can follow you on twitter without your permission.
