Can somebody tell me what Twitter is?

It may seem like a dumb question but I need to know. Everyone seems obsessed with it, so can someone tell me what you do with Twitter?

Twitter gives you an online account that simply answers this question to everyone: "What are you doing?"
You make short 140 char. max updates for people to read. For example, if you were going to the movies to see Terminator: Salvation, you would update saying "Going to movies to see Terminator: Salvation".
