If I type @'their name' does it only go to them or does it go to everyone on my network?

Everyone who follows you will see it. To send a private message I think you use direct message?

everyone can see it but its put in their little @ inbox thing. if you only want them reading it, send them a direct message. which you can do by going to the direct messages thing and chossing who you wanna send it to
