What's a nice polite way of telling someone you don't want to talk to them anymore?

What's a nice polite way of telling someone you don't want to talk to them anymore?
There is a guy and I we have made the routine of talking a couple times a week. We were on a longdistance relationship for like a year. But were currently just friends.

But the thing is I am always forcing myself to talk to him. It's really boring. I don't mind occasionally getting comments on facebook or twitter but I just hate having these long drawn out conversations with him and I am wondering how to tell him this in a nice way without hurting his feelings.

Just answer the little comments as you feel you'd like to, and stop replying at length to any other messages. Eventually he will understand that you're not going to talk much.

Do not say "I don't want to talk anymore" since it will embarrass him. Besides, you don't know, maybe he's tired of talking to you too, but doesn't want to hurt your feelings. Just slowly cut down communication and don't say anything more to him about it. He will get the idea.

Gradually ignoring him is not a nice polite way to stop talking to someone. It's too passive and what if he doesn't get the hint? This will hurt his feelings too. Stop trying to spare yourself the guilt and just tell him straight.
Any way you do it, his feelings are going to be hurt. Sounds like he still likes you and wants to continue the long distance relationship and you are ready to move on. Just be honest. You might hurt his feelings but maybe he needs that kick in the butt to move on.

Be just as boring as him. Don't let a real conversion to start, if he starts to talk for too long say " Im going out with some friends talk to you later" then sign off. Keep coming up with excuses until he gets the hint and stops.

You could let him know you have a busy schedule and can not talk as often or as long as you have been in the past and it's hard letting your friends know ( sounds like you mean others also) so as not to hurt his feelings. Then say ,You will call for a short chat to see how he is doing some time soon. If you do call, make it short like just wondering how things are going etc.and talk later. Then hang up after saying goodbye of course. Evie
