What is controversial clothing? What does it mean?
On twitter my boyfriends friend tweeted "Wearing controversial clothing because you saw someone hotter than you wearing it, it never works out"
What does this mean?

Unusual use of contraversial but I suppose if you wore your Gym clothes and trainers to a Grand Prom Ball - that would be contraversial.

It means wearing provocative clothes, clothes that perhaps exposes
a bit more (cleavage) than would be appropriate for a particular situation
and your boyfriend is inferring what looks good on someone else, might
not look that good on you.
