How do you send a direct messege on twitter?

well if your just following someone and their not following you then you cant, but you can send a reply to them by typing @ then their twitter name this message will go onto their page and they may see it and reply back. but f they are following you back then click direct messages on the right hand side, use the drop down and select a name and then type your message.
