Boss at work isnt treating us nicely?
I work at Cost Plus World Market as a graveyard stocker along with 5 other people. And latley we have been really upset because we found out the other graveyard stockers to our other stores get paid more than we do and apprently its up to our store director if we should get paid more of not. We get paid 8.00 an hour.. We literally do back breaking work every single day when it comes to unloading the trucks we get, to orginzing furniture. Latley its been such pain because we are all running our doing all the work, picking up day crews slack and they dont appreciate a single thing. We also found out the other day that we got a certain amount of money to spend for thanks giving for us so we can eat, but the day crew spent it all on themselves and we didnt get shit. Its just the amount of work we do causes me to sleep all day and then go to work, i literally have no energy to do anything else.. specially for 8 dollars an hour its not worth it. Eventually im going to quit, but for now is there anything i can do? My friends tell me to call the Labor board about how much we get paid? But what can they do? Im not one to complain but its starting to get really ridiculous on how they are starting to treat us there.

Either you accept this is a thankless job... or you take the 8.00 an hour as all the thanks you are ever likely to get. Life isn't fair.. never was and never will be.

There's nothing legally that will be done. Your employer isn't required to pay you the same wages as other employees, and they aren't required to give you extras, such as for holidays, nor are they required to give you the same bonuses that other employees are given.
You either have to deal with it, or get a job elsewhere

My advice for you is to find out if the other locations are in need of staffing and transfer out to the better paying locations if they are close enough or find out if any openings for promotion are available.

I also believe contacting corperate by way of A LETTER to discuss your grievances with your bosses boss. Make it a point for the rest of your co-workers to do the same.

The reason I stress the act of submitting a letter is because letters will be placed in your bosses perment record as an employee of the company and enough greivences will be damning to them in the long or even short term of their employment.

I've been in your shoes too many times bro...

Evidently your not a union shop Andy. So your only recourse is to talk to this turkey in a 'respectful' way. Let him know that your crew are hard workers and feel that you should get the same pay as your counter parts at the other stores. You need to 'kiss a little *ss' and make this bum feel like a big shot, that's the way it works. Some people should never be in a supervisory level, but the reality of it is, they get in some how and the only way you can deal with them is "feed their ego" It's a pain but that's life in the fast lane. The labor boards only help those of certain ethnicities, so unless you fall into those categories, nothing can be done except to quit and find a better job.

Yes, working can be difficult. Working can be unfair.

Your friends are wrong about calling the Labor Board to complain about wages. The Labor Board does a lot to help employees but they will not open a case because your store pays less than the other stores. As long as it's at least minimum wage - individual stores can make their own wage scale.

As far as any Thanksgiving funds - the Labor Board isn't going to do anything about that either.

And there is no law or Board to complain to about other employee's "appreciating" anything.

And it's not up to your employer to assure that you don't work too hard so you can have a social life.

That's life in the big city - as they say.

The store sounds like it has bad management and is poorly run. And there is little you can do about that either. Except - if they have a management turnover - wait for a decent manager.

Or possibly file a complaint with the HR Department of the corporation. You don't say what store this is - so it's hard to say. Is it a franchise? Is it a branch of a corporation? So it's hard to say where and who to look for - or if they even have an HR Department that covers all the stores. You would need to find that out.

Or find another job. Or deal with it.
