Make someone UNfollow you on twitter?

Someone is following me that I don't even know and I want them to stop following me. I blocked them but they still show up under my "followers". How do I make them go away? And what does it mean that I blocked them?

You could send them a dm telling them that your not comfortable with them following you and if they can please unfollow you. Blocking should mean that they cannot see your tweets.

I think when you block someone on Twitter it means that they can't reply to you or send direct messages to you not remove them from your followers list.
