On an Orange Pay as you Go phone with WiFi is it free to use WiFi?
i understand when i want to access the internet or built in apps like facebook twitter flickr myspace etc which connect to the internet i have to pay for mb's downloaded
but if i want to connect to my home WiFi or a free public WiFi network and use the phone's built in Opera mini browser is there a charge for it i've tried looking all over the orange site and can't find anything about wifi fees
if it helps i'm on an old choose your own off peak call plan and haven't gone on to one of the animal plans
thanks
i thought it was free but i've been charged for downloading gprs data and i haven't knowingly connected to the internet though on a couple of occasions i did forget to turn my WiFi on before opening up the Opera Mini Browser app

Im with orange too, and yes its free to use your own wifi. Also in regards to public wifi, you can get an access code of orange so you can connect to the cloud, and bt wifi hotspots anywhere.

It is free to use Wi-Fi as you are connecting to a pre-existing internet connection and not using Orange's phone network. The data transfer is taking place between your phone and the router, and so has nothing to do with your phone network.

The reason you may have been charged for GPRS data in the past is that some apps and services can constantly use the internet even if you are not actively doing anything on them. For example, push email accounts will periodically check to see if there are any new messages and services like Facebook and Twitter will be refreshing themselves from time to time to find new updates. To stop them doing this you can disable GPRS and 3G when not in use.
