These things have both benefitted and harmed society. Immediate information on demand is helpful if you're writing a news story or trying to outrun a natural disaster. But that kind of immediacy is overwhelming if you're just waiting for someone to "like" your Facebook posting.

Given that my cable company hasn't repaired my cable TV since hurricane Sandy, TV has no effect on me. The Internet is a learning tool for me. I don't use it to socialize with people. I'm on Y!A, because I like to study human nature. ;-)

I think it's both. It can be a learning tool and it can keep you from socializing.

Both are supreme mind control devices as well as learning devices. They are both good and bad.

The key word in your question is 'society,' and when it comes to the social aspect, I believe the T.V. has taken away from social contact, whereas the internet, in many cases, particularly as it pertains to computer dating, social communications via Facebook, etc., has served as a successful social tool. As with anything, too much of a good thing is bad and if it replaces face to face social contact valuable communication skills may be lost or fail to successfully develop.

As far as technilogical advancements go, Computers have done nothing but benefit society. You cannot compare TV's to computers. TV's have been around since the stone age and dont offer ANY real benefit to a person or society. TV's have nothing to offer people besides entertainment and very, very limited information (most of it is false).

On the other hand the would you live in operates 100% by computers. If it weren't for computers you wouldnt be able to ask this question.

As far as anti social goes, I would say abosolutly not! The biggest thing to ever hit the internet are social networking sites like myspace, facebook, twitter, tumblr and many more! These sites were designed for people to socialize and connect with one another. Not to mention they are the most popular things people use computers for.

Think about before the invention of the TV. Do you really think people just walked out in the street shouting back and fourth or have massive social gatherings? Absolutly not lol. They sat inside and simply enjoyed the company of there familys.
