how do you make those avatars as your picture for yahoo?

i see peoples profiles on here and they have like little cartoon avatars on but i couldn't find how to get them? sorry if its a dumb question XS

You are referring to a Yahoo! Avatar. You can create one on the following page:

You can use a photo or a Yahoo! cartoon avatar, and if you have a Facebook or Twitter account, you can also use those avatars.

Go to: http://profile.yahoo.com/y/settings/privacy/ - make sure your profile isn't hidden, because if it is, your avatar won't show.

If you want a cartoon avatar, go here to create one: http://avatars.yahoo.com/ - then click on "Yahoo!" under "Export your Avatar".

In case you want to use a Facebook or Twitter avatar, you need to link those accounts in the Profile options.

You have several options in case you want a photo avatar:
a) go to your Yahoo! Answers settings at http://answers.yahoo.com/my-activity/edit/about , click "Update photo or avatar",
b) go to your Yahoo! Profile at http://profile.yahoo.com/ , click on the current avatar.
Now upload a picture or choose one of the pics you've uploaded previously.

For the Photo avatar,
Click on this link http://profiles.yahoo.com/
Hover over your image and click "Change Picture"
Click "Add Photo" then browse,
choose the picture that you want,and
do the CAPTCHA code.
When your picture has uploaded, click on it then
on "Use selected photo"
Then click on this link, http://answers.yahoo.com/my/my_edit
then click on "Use my Profile image"
And finally click on Preview and OK

Click "My Activity" at top of page
Select "Edit My Preferences"
Click "Update photo or avatar"
Follow instructions to select your photo/avatar
Click "Submit" on bottom of original page when done
