Does peoples social status determine where they happen to be living and the market in which they work ?

Social status is just something that varies from place to place. Take the idea of "alpha males" for example. A guy could be the man amongst a bunch of effeminate nerds but a nerd amongst the football team.

It all depends on the environment.

To a great extent it does. If you were born in the ghetto, your chances of winding up a doctor are slim. If you were born middle-class or upper class, they're a lot better.
