I think they are required by their contract to have a Facebook/Twitter since it boost their popularity.

And also most of them don't even use their face books since they hire people to post stuff for them.

Also there are many retired players who don't use their face books like Michael Jordan.

None of them are required, it's a personal choice.

There are plenty of them who don't bother with using social media. But they aren't about to come forward and say "I don't use social media.".
