How do you start your online life over?

Basically what I'm trying to ask is, how do you get rid of most of your old friends and make new ones online? (facebook, twitter, yahoo, etc.. ) I know this may seem like a dumb question, but I never had to start from scratch, I just kinda grew with these sites and now I feel like starting over and consciously choosing who I accept as a friend . Another reason why I would like to make a new Facebook is because I haven't been on in several months and I feel like it would be awkward to just pop up out of no where after so much time has past since my last post. How do you think I should do this? Should I add anyone from my old page or should I allow people to find me? Advice please, thanks.
