My friends are boring, what do I do?

My friends are boring, what do I do?
Ok, so first off, I am not popular. Not a total outcast but not popular. i am an inbetweener. I made the (in my opinion) mistake of listening to my parents and staying away from the popular kids or "bad influences". Trouble is I feel like I have grown beyond my current group of friends and think I would really fit in with the 'popular' group. Not for popularity, they just seem like my type of people. The parties, mainly.

It's just my friends are never willing to venture out of our town or do anything crazy. I find that I have grown past them as I actually find them quite immature. I feel like I am really slagging my friends off but honestly, it's not like that. I like my friends but I think I would be more suited to the popular group but, as I'm sure you know, it's not easy as that sort of group is set in stone from first year of secondary school and it is very hard to break in to. Any suggestions are welcomed and thanks for your time Smile

You're right. It's very hard to break in once the relationships have already developed. But I'm like you - I had/have friends that are more reserved or don't go out and party or do stuff I can considered fun that often, so I tried to find ways to hang out with people that I thought I would be compatible with.

If you have any type of communication (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, email, cell number - to text, call, etc) with any of the popular kids that you would like to hang out with, try to start a convo with them and just say hey what's up long time no see... how are things/school? And so on. See how they respond to you and if you are able to maintain a good convo with them, then just see if they wanna grab a couple of beers and hang out or something and catch up. Once you're able to start hanging out with one of them comfortably, the rest will come easy because they will most likely be willing to introduce you to their friends if you're open about wanting to party and stuff, and those friends will introduce you to their friends, etc. Just be a friendly, positive, and open-minded person who likes to enjoy himself and I am sure you will have no problems making new friends.

On a side note - don't think that what you're feeling/thinking is a bad thing. You can still be friends with your current friends. But if there's something more appealing about the popular kids that you want to be a part of, then don't limit yourself. Go for it and just put yourself out there.

Good luck man!
