my menu tool bar doesn't work?

i cannot hi-lite and change font and/or size. in the font box, there is only a single ' F ' instead of ' Ff '. if i hi-lite and select a different font in my email, i lose whatever i hi-lited. the size and type of font goes back to something else that i did not chose

You don't have to, but it wouldn't hurt to put your question in the correct Category: Yahoo Mail. Yahoo redesigned their Yahoo Mail a few weeks ago and the change has caused problems for many people.
You are talking about the formatting bar (please don't use menu tool bar; it is misleading and incorrect). Here's some things you can try.
Use Yahoo Mail Classic; it is not officially supported and may go away at anytime:

Report problem to Yahoo Customer Care (Yahoo tech support):
Yahoo has made it difficult (I can't figure out how) to report Mail problems via email. You might have to telephone Yahoo! or try to reach Yahoo! using Twitter.
