Do I qualify for food stamps?
I am a college student living with my grandparents. Neither of them have jobs, and I don't either. Would I qualify for food stamps?
And don't judge because I don't have a job. I'm a full time music major, performing and studying takes up most of my time.

One thing to remember from my wife is that Always put your families first. no matter what you chewse too do, you can always ask for more money from a pap or a ggranny. Thats what we're (their) they''re for! Good luck and all you do,. chap. ! Like my wife says "you cant get anywhere in this life without a job!"

If your parents claim you as a dependant on their income tax, they are providing support which includes food. If your grandparents are receiving regular, not supplemental social security they are in the same boat as most retired persons. I don't understand why you don't have a job, but maybe you are doing the housework, cooking, and yard care for your grandparents, and taking them to doctor appointments in lieu of paying a market rent. You can always apply for food stamps, but I don't think you qualify.

No.

I am also a student. A Liberal Arts freshman. I had applied for food stamps and medicaid not too long ago. I was assigned a nasty case worker who informed me that the reason I DID NOT qualify, was becuase I was a student. I am homeless. I do not have any grand parents that did not abuse me as a child that is.

You will not be eligible for food stamps, or medicaid, as you are a student as I am.

I have attached the federal calculator - it is very accurate as only you or your family know the information to fill in the blanks. Remember, it will be based upon household income which will includes social security or disability if either grandparent receives this. Also, one thing I hate but it is the rule for students - loans, scholarships etc. any awards you are given to pay for school, books etc is counted as income. I realize it is used for school, and I suspect since you do not have a job you are "living" on your financial aid. This is what prohibits most students from qualifying. Also, you will probably be required to work 20 hours per week as part of qualification. There are exceptons for the disabled or those caring for a disabled person or small child. Are either grandparent disabled?
Education is critical to avoid the system in the future, so while I know it is tough right now, hang in there.

Full time college students do not qualify if they are not working at least 20 hours a week. Even music majors. Your dreams and goals are no more important than anyone else's. Everyone's time is of equal value. Others should not work more hours just so people like you don't need to work any at all. You must contribute like everyone else.
