Should I start the conversation and how?

I am a sophomore girl and there is this senior guy I like in my first hour class. My friend overheard is number in the hall and gave it to me. I want to text him first but I feel weird because he didn't actually give it to me himself. He smiles when he sees me and says hi and teases me but he is just like that. I know that he doesn't like me but I would still like to get closer to him. Does anyone have any ideas how I could start a conversation without sounding sexual or awkward? Is is weird if I start the conversation?

Don't text him because that is sort of awkward and creepy since you got it from someone else. Do you have him added on any social network because i would do that first. Talk to him on twitter or facebook, just comment on one of his status which builds chemistry. You guys need to talk more first and you could try hinting him that you like him and throw in some compliment. Also make sure your funny because thats a total turn on in all guys. After that you could plan hang out and thats here he would offer you his number by you asking him if he would like to hang out again. And no its not weird if you start the conversation.
