I don't mean alike as in exactly, because i know i will get a bunch of people talking about economics and tv. I mean overall are they pretty similar, because thats what it seems like.

There are differences that they can see but from a British point of view, yes they're very similar. For example they say there is a different accent but it's not noticeable to a Brit. I think Canada has more of a welfare state like Europe. Medical care for all etc and less crime.

America's pretty fucked up, from an Americans point of view. Canada looks like heaven, or a safe haven.

Nope, it's not.
This simple illustration helps demonstrate that: http://geekyg1rl.files.wordpress.com/201...hockey.jpg

What is seems =/= What it is. They're two very different things.
Like the old saying goes, appearances can be deceiving. And most often are.
(Look at the US obsession with gun rights as a primary example of that.)

A few headlines that illustrate various ways the US is totally unlike Canada:

'Canada Named The World's Most Educated Country'
'Canada is best G20 country for females'
'Best Country For Kids: Canada Best Place In The World To Raise Children'
'Crime: Canada's common sense approach trumps America's zeal for incarceration'
'Obamacare is nothing like Canadian health care'
'Canada better than U.S., U.K. at protecting citizens' privacy: study'
'Canada's political culture: Different from U.S.'
'Canada: Constitutional Superpower'
'Canadians are the most tolerant people in the developed world: report'
'10 Most Reputable Countries and Canada Takes Top Spot'
'Montreal and Toronto are more powerful when it comes to influencing music trends than L.A., New York, Seattle or dozens of other major North American cities according to a new study.'

Canadian parents get money every month to help offset the costs of raising kids:

Canadians get sales tax rebates 4 times a year: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/bnfts/gsthst/menu-eng.html

A few more things Canada has that the US does not:

-The highest quality of life in the G7.
-The safest G7 nation to live in.
-The G7's most fairly-administered judicial system.
-The G7 leader in providing equal opportunities for individuals.
-Canada's Constitution provides more rights & freedoms than America's does.
-Canadians are healthier & live years longer than Americans due to universal healthcare.
-Canadians pay fewer taxes per person than Americans do.

And a few more things that Canada is that the US isn't:

-One of the world's 10 safest countries.
-One of the world's 10 most peaceful nations.
-One of the world's 10 happiest countries.
-One of the world's 10 least corrupt nations.

Yea, kinda...both have free market economies with a social welfare state....both have federal systems (3 levels of gov't)....but the US follows the congressional form of governing while Canada followed the British style parliamentary system with a constitutional monarch.

Both speak english with french in Canada & spanish in the US.
