Are Twitter Social Media people real?

Getting a little concerned with the people following me on Twitter. They all seem to be madly obsessed with social marketing or something. Should I follow them back? I get the feeling they don't want to follow ME, and I feel like I've joined some kind of organization (lots of people have started following me since I followed 1 of these people...

It really depends what type of people you are targeting on twitter. twitter is known for its hard social media presence, so it is a bit hard not to be followed by these businesses and organizations!
