I really want to be a film director or be part of the process of film. Is youtube a good start?

Youtube can be helpful but you've got to know what you're doing to get the publicity you want. I'm a singer, not rofessionally, I'm 15 but I've built up 57 subscribers and I've got a few thousand total views. In the beginning I made a few mistakes by not putting up my best work and got critisised a lot. It can be harsh and I recommend sharing your work with people on facebook and twitter to get anywhere near where you want to be. Good luck for the future, I'm clairee11x on youtube and if you ever need any youtube advice message me!

Yes as you could start off as making small films of your own or videos which express who you are and which capture different things and what you aspire to be or just random things because any where's a start, but a variety of things as you want to attract different types of people. Maybe you should watch a few YouTube videos of the type of videos you want to produce and continue from there adding your own ideas and making your productions as unique as possible which would make them more popular and interesting. If you think youtube would be a good start go for it, because you're you and the only person who knows what you want and what you want to get out of thing. It'd also be a confidence booster and give you a little experience in case you wanted to go any further into that type of stuff. But like one of the answer say, you tubers can be harsh, but you could just disable their comments, because as long as your happy with your work it doesn't matter

I think you should watch a few youtube videos, then try making a small iMovie but with other characters, and you be a mini director. Then read some books or vids about directing, then go for your dream.

Most definitely. Shane Dawson started out as a kid working at Jenny Craig who put on wigs and made videos every now and then.

Look at him now. He went from just himself, to now, having producers of his own, camera people, etc, having been on the front page of itunes like what? 2-3 times? He has been in a movie. Smiley. And is working to produce his own movie now.

Youtube is a wonderful place to start. Freddyw and ShaneDawsonTV are proof of this.

Hi
Well it really depends on whether or not you have a good film. You must have great acting, lighting, editing, etc. when you are confident in your video, put it on your channel and make sure to say that you directed it.
Best of luck!

If you haven't already, I recommend watching FreddieW, Tomska, OMFGit'sJackandDean. There are others too, they're all great YouTubers that are very popular and make quality stuff. Look at channels like this for great examples.

If you get haters on your videos, don't forget that 98.9346% of people that watch YouTube videos are complete and utter *"&!£%@£^£!^@£(£%!£^~@#'"£%>,`%£. Take no notice, unless it's constructive criticism.

Good luck!
