A hashtag is one of these symbols: #
People will usually put them before a statement or word on Twitter to make it one of the top trends. For example #YahooAnswers, if a lot of people hashtagged it then it would trend.

A hashtag is a word phrase prefixed by a #, like #winning or #yolo. They are usually used on Twitter.
