I am interested in social media and public relations?

I find it very interesting and I'd love to pursue it.
I have been working on a blog for about 2 years now and have about 111 followers. It's not a lot but I am constantly trying to build the flow so I have something on my side so it's a more likely chance people will come to me to advertise them.
currently I have been going around to people that aren't very well known to the public yet and asking for an interview I could put on my blog where my followers could see them.

Is there any advice from those with experience? I don't have very much knowledge about public relations other than the research I've done online.

So are you interesting in this as a job or just for your blog?

As a job, there are many companies out there looking for marketing and PR assistants or general web administrators who manage the social media. Most ask for experience or qualifications so I would suggest either volunteering or get an internship (if you cannot afford to get the qualifications).

If you are just doing it for your blog, right now you need to focus on building a big fanbase. Sure, over 100 is a lot but it is not enough for a company to notice you and want to use you. So get on blogging forums and promote your blog. Engage the readers with competitions and follow/comment on other blogs. Basically, you are looking at building up to the thousands. Sounds a lot but even that is a small audience for a company to advertise to..
