How can I get more twitter followers?

My friends have been really slow to get with the twitter trend. I see normal people with lots of followers and I wonder how they do it. I don't want thousands of followers just about 150 or so. How can I do this?

You don't get a prize for having a lot of followers. People will not like you more or think you are cool because you have many followers. You will gain nothing from a ton of random followers other than crap you don't want to read on your twitter front page every day.

Generally though, to answer your question, some people follow back automatically if you follow them. You can follow companies and they tend to follow back, so maybe follow brands you like (clothes make up stores etc) See if there are people in your email address book who joined twitter and you can follow them and hope they follow you back.

It's really a futile aspiration though.

Start following people whom you really think have good thing to share. keep updating your profile with good updates that could make people interested in your profile.

If you haven't figured it out yet, Twitter is absolutely useless. You write a tweet and you'll be lucky if someone actually responds to it. It's like talking to a brick wall. Why? Because 80% of people who actually follow you don't even care about "what are you doing" or "what are you thinking" at the moment. So if you're not super famous, who on earth would like to "follow" you except for your loyal friends, who are probably following for the reason you won't get heart broken. Even tweets by famous people don't get any response all the time. So what's a tweet? It's nothing more than shortened blog delivered in "drive-by-shooting" format. It's such a wonder why the CEO stepped down.
