The writers of the Constitution were mostly wealthy, property-owning, and influential men of their time. Does that fact alter whether or not the Constitution is truly a democratic document? Why or why not?

Obviously the American constitution, like that of any country, is written by the wealthiest and most educated social class, and is therefore biased and aimed primarily at keeping the wealthy in power. The American version of democracy was originally based on the idea that if the wealthy class allowed people of lower and middle class status a certain amount of freedom, it would aid in the development of the infrastructure of the new nation. It was a political system that would allow a free market to exist with little government interference on the wealthy classes making a profit.

The Founding Fathers sacrificed ALOT. While they might have been the most wealthy they sacrificed alot i mean ALOT. Sons died in war, familes were arrested, murdered , they lost land and money. Lafayette spent his whole fortune on the rebel army. He could of easily vacationed in France with his millions but did not.
Compare to the French and Russian Revolutions (both that failed miserably) They're whole grand plan was a Republic. They hated how only one man, one group had power. They wanted everyone to have the chance to be "wealthy, property-owning, and influential" Back then reading was huge, everyone was very educated. With the collapse of the British Empire, land was sold extremely cheap, schools and jobs were promoted and taxes lowered. |

No, but the exclusion of slaves and Native Americans came back to be a concern in U.S. history.

The United States does not have a democracy. We have a Constitutional -Republic, which is exactly what our Founding Fathers wanted.
