By meeting with civil rights leaders he can make sure the ' stuff ' is that which his followers most desire.

If you even read the article he is not consulting them about Economics or Economic policy (as you imply by say simply "Economics") he is consulting them on the concerns their communities have on the economic impact the "Fiscal Cliff" would have on their communities.

Gee finding out how things might effect the common man and listening to their concerns, what a terrible thing!

I think if Obama were to consult ONLY those such as Al Sharpton then I'd suspect Obama was in serious need of understanding what it takes to run this country.

It's not unusual to consult with leaders from a specific "walk in life" to get the pulse of that section of society.

Of course it's my hope that the pulse from the "civil rights" side of the house is now a mute issue. If we are still making issue with the color of skin then we have bigger problems than I suspected. This country will go no place if we continue to dwell on racism that only exists in those minds that have nothing better to do! Sharpton thrives on the issue as does Jesse Jackson and his ilk!
