How to deactivate a Twitter account?

I really want to deactivate my Twitter account but everything I try to it says "Twitter is over capacity" and its been doing this for ages and I waited a few hours and its STILL doing it.
Please help, I NEED to deactivate it :'(

Just stop using it.

Sign in to twitter.com on the web.
Go to your Account settings and click on Deactivate my account at the bottom of the page.
Read the account deactivation information. Click Okay, fine, deactivate account.
Enter your password when prompted and verify that you want to deactivate your account.
