I want to replace my laptop battery?
I want to replace my laptop battery [Dell Studio 1558]. Battery Specifications>Rating: 11.1V, Capacity 56Wh,
Battery Specifications: Rating: 11.1V, Capacity: 56Wh, Type: WU946. I searched flipkart.com for the battery, but they are a bit different specifications. Could you please let me know what if there's a bit deviation with Capacity/Type [56Wh & WU946]. Dell charges more, flipkart charges less. or anyone could you help suggest something.

Before you change your battery, try to search on the web how to raise it's life span. There are thousands of tutorials on how to do it and costs you nothing but a simple search.

If you really want to change it, I suggest you go with the original factory battery so you don't get any errors. You don't want to fry your hardware with a different amp'd battery.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I am sujeet from the Dell Social Media outreach team.
Before we discuss where to change the battery from, let’s see why do you want to replace the battery.
Is it because of battery backup or a battery error message
Then first thing need to see how old your system battery is , if your system is more than 365 days old, then the warranty replacement is not possible as it’s a consumable product.
Second scenario if you system is giving error message that says something like “ need to replace the battery” in that case time to purchase a new battery
Few things you can try to keep the battery in good condition:

Dim your screen – Most laptops come with the ability to dim your laptop screen. Some even come with ways to modify CPU and cooling performance. Cut them down to the lowest level you can tolerate to squeeze out some extra battery juice.

Cut down on programs running in the background. Itunes, Desktop Search, etc. All these add to the CPU load and cut down battery life. Shut down everything that isn’t crucial when you’re on battery.

Cut down external devices – USB devices (including your mouse) & WiFi drain down your laptop battery. Remove or shut them down when not in use. It goes without saying that charging other devices (like your iPod) with your laptop when on battery is a surefire way of quickly wiping out the charge on your laptop battery.

Add more RAM - This will allow you to process more with the memory your laptop has, rather than relying on virtual memory. Virtual memory results in hard drive use, and is much less power efficient. Note that adding more RAM will consume more energy, so this is most applicable if you do need to run memory intensive programs which actually require heavy usage of virtual memory.

Keep the battery contacts clean: Clean your battery’s metal contacts every couple of months with a cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol. This keeps the transfer of power from your battery more efficient.

Take care of your battery – Exercise the Battery. Do not leave a charged battery dormant for long periods of time. Once charged, you should at least use the battery at least once every two to three weeks. Also, do not let a Li-On battery completely discharge. (Discharing is only for older batteries with memory effects)

If in case you do face any challenges in the process, please feel free to contact me directly by sending me a private message or by through a reply to this blog.

We would recommend that you do not post any private information such as your service tag or contact details on a public forum.
