What you learn an Uni should be enough to do freelance work as a web designer. I recommend you use sites online like freelance or micro job websites to get freelance work and build customers. These sites really market your services for you. You can earn anywhere from $5 for very simple tasks up to hundreds of dollars for complex designs, maybe Thousands for the right project. Remember though, the more money you make the more time you will put into the project. You can design websites, logos, social media backgrounds, icons, etc. Lot's of design work online.

You can and should post jobs and search jobs on more than one site. Increase your exposure and potential client base.

You may try to get some certificates too, CIW is the leader for design, etc. Although, on the freelance sites most work is gained through experience and good feedback and ratings from buyers and clients in the marketplace.

Hope this helps.
