Twitter help please?!?

I've been on twitter since I was a teen but there's one thing I'm curious about. If your account is private, can other people see your tweets when they search up hashtags or certain words? Or is it completely private no matter what just not to the people following you??

if your account is private then only the people you are following (& people who are following you) can see your tweets.. random people can't see your hashtags
