Canadian immigration officials will not allow a foreigner to take a job in Canada that a qualified Canadian can do and, sorry, but working in a store is considered unskilled work and there are plenty of Canadians who could do that kind of work. Think of something else as your plan will not work.

Not going to happen. Ruth is correct.

In order to legally hire foreign workers a Canadian company or individual must obtain permission from Citizenship and Immigration Canada by obtaining a labour market opinion (LMO) report from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) which shows a shortage of Canadian workers in that profession. There is no shortage of store workers in Canada. In order to obtain a work permit, a person must submit an application from to the nearest Canadian embassy or consulate with the job offer letter and the LMO. No LMO... no work permit. He must also undergo medical, background, and finanical checks.

Without a work permit he may not stay in Canada (longer than 180 days), work or look for work. He may also not obtain health insurance, a driver's license, insure a vehicle, open a bank account, etc., etc. If your friend hires him without a work permit he faced up to ten years in prison and fines up to $100,000 as would you or your parents for knowingly allowing him to stay with you. Hiring a worker without a social insurance number also subjects employers to fines, penalties, and imprisonment from Canada Revenue Agency. Standard penalties on failing to remit payroll taxes is 10% for the first month, 20% for the second, 30% for the third, etc.

Working as a store clerk does NOT qualify for a work permit - it is NOT a skilled job and it is not a job in demand, so he will NOT be approved to work in Canada.

The only way he will be able to live in Canada is if you and he get married. His lack of jobs skills wont matter in a spousal application.

But you will have to show proof that your marriage is genuine.
