Is it worth my time (and parents' tuition money) to get a Spanish minor?
Hey! I'm currently a sophomore at a top-10 USNWR school thinking about investment banking and trading as possible career options. I'm actually graduating two quarters early. I'm doing this because I want to hike the whole Appalachian Trail shortly after graduation and finish before I start working, which I know typically starts in late June/early July at most major bulge bracket banks or even middle market ones. I am for sure getting an econ major with a stats minor. However, if I take a few intermediate spanish language/culture classes to augment my proficiency, is it worth staying in school an extra quarter (and paying an extra ~19k) to complete the full Latin American Studies minor?

I took Spanish for years and years.
Useless. 100% waste of my money and time. Any educated spanish person knows English. They are taught in schools from early grades. Very early. The ones that do not know English are the most poor and uneducated ones. A lot of immigrants or social services recipients. Do you want to help people that have NO money in investment banking? Again, anyone with any money would know English, and know it VERY well. The biggest waste of my life was taking Spanish. Only if my goal was to work at the welfare office would this have been hellpful |
