How to get likes on a facebook page?
This is a little awkward for me so just stay with me. My friend made a page and I really want to impress her. She has been down lately and all she really has been doing is making her page 'good' and going to work to get money. I don't have a lot of money myself, as I don't want to pay. But I really want her to be surprised if people like her page. I just need something as an idea or a starting point to get fans for her. Any ideas?
HAHAH what?

tell as many people as you can that she is a bona fide bi-sexual nymphomaniac but doesn't like to talk about it.

Social media is kind of a double-edged sword. On one hand, you have the opportunity now to get exposure for your website, or service/page/etc. on a major level- even an international level- for very little money. That's something that would have been almost impossible before the age of the internet- particularly for small businesses/entrepreneurs. The companies that are huge are usually so b/c they invested hundreds of thousands of dollars on branding and public relations/marketing experts.

On the other hand, the internet also has created a flood- everyone and their brother wants to run a business or make money from their laptop, so it's REALLY easy to get lost in the crowd.
A good example of this:
I make jewelry. I started to sell on Etsy, and it was awesome, b/c now Etsy was basically getting the traffic for me. On the other hand, everyone else who makes jewelry is thinking the same thing, so it's hard to stand out in the crowd. Ultimately, i had to pay a (albeit small) fee to get some of my best pieces featured, which means when someone does a search on Etsy for something I've tagged my listing with, Etsy will put me and a few other people's listings up top in a bar, as "featured".

I resisted doing this for a long time, b/c I thought it was just a racket for Etsy to make more money- but as Etsy has gotten more popular, I started noticing the increase I had in sales was dropping again. It wasn't b/c my stuff was any better or worse than anyone elses- it's just that there were SO MANY everyone elses'.

So I ended up paying the fee (it was $7.00). I had three sales by the end of the day whose profit FAR exceeded the $7.00 I spent.

So the best thing to do is to market yourself. You don't need to pay a ton of money to do it- most places have packages around $20.00 for a basic one.

Another way to increase traffic/get likes is to link your accounts- some services actually teach you how to do this, and others will automate the process.

There is a site called Social Builders, who actually specialize in social media services, like FB. They also have packages for other social media sites- i used their Twitter package, which was only $17, and gave me 2500 new followers. Now whenever I list something in my Etsy shop, I'll tweet the listing, and on top of the 500 followers I already had, 2,500 more see them. It was totally worth the $17, which is like the cost of a DVD or a movie ticket, so not very much at all, especially when you're getting started. They have a FB package for 1,000 likes. This would be an EXCELLENT way to get your girlfriend's page exposure- FB especially rocks for this stuff, b/c now, everyone of those 1,000 new likes are also going to show up in all THEIR contact's news feeds as liking your girlfriend's page- which is mega-exposure. If each of those 1,000 people had at least 500 friends, that means technically FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND people will see the page. She'll get more likes than the 1,000 you got her too.

There's other sites and packages, but I can't speak as to having any experience with them. I have used Social Builders, so i know they deliver, and also, they're really, really simple to use- which for someone new is a good thing. They'll do all the work for you.

So I hope this helps. It can be really daunting when you start out, and I remember feeling like I must be a crappy designer when it didn't take off right away, but once I started marketing, i realized that wasn't the case. And btw, i think it's super-sweet you're doing this for her, and care about her so much. I know if some guy cared enough about me to want to help me succeed, and helped me get a 1,000 likes, he'd be a keeper Smile It shows you're actually thinking about what will make her happy. That's really awesome.

Tell you what. Just 'cause I think it's so cute that you're doing this for her, if you send me a link to her page on FB, I'll like it for you. I'll be your first one Smile

Good luck Smile
