Does Twitter require a cell phone number?

I was using Facebook for a while, but they kept asking me for a cell phone number and eventually locked my account until I would verify it with a cell phone. I don't have a cell phone, so I had to use my mom's. Does Twitter do this too? Will they eventually make me verify my account with a cell phone if I make one? I think it is unnecesary and don't think I should have to give them a phone number. So, I just want to know if Twitter does this like Facebook?

Twitter only requires email the only reason facebook or twitter would ask is if you want to be able to use the mobile version of them
