Can you help me find evidence that the Tea Parties started under Bush?
I've heard this said, but I can't find any evidence. Things like a newspaper article dated in 2008 or earlier, news video, etc. Something to show the Tea Party rallies started before Obama was President. Please supply links.

Thanks.

February 19, 2009 on CNBC (that's the general thought). Here's a link:

It didn't

It started in Feb 2009. To say otherwise is plain dishonest. NOTHING started until the current president entered office.

Ron Paul supporters put together some protests in 2007/2008 concerning the Federal Reserve and against the wars that some say are the roots but they have LITTLE to do with the party now. It was really about raising money.

http://www.bostonherald.com/news/us_poli...id=1051232

On January 24 2009, Trevor Leach, chairman of the Young Americans for Liberty in New York State organized a "Tea Party" in 2009 in response to over 100 new or higher taxes proposed by New York Governor David Paterson and increasing government interference in the free markets using the proposed soda "obesity tax" to symbolize the original Boston Tea Party. Several of the protesters wore indian headdresses similar to the band of 18th century colonists who dumped tea in Boston Harbor to express outrage about British taxes."

"New York Times journalist Kate Zernike reported that leaders within the Tea Party credit Seattle blogger and conservative activist Keli Carender with organizing the first Tea Party in February 2009, although the term "Tea Party" was not used."

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/28/us/pol...8keli.html

Since its inception in February 2009, the Tea Party movement—with the help of viral videos and social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter—almost instantly found a large and loyal following that has gained traction and supporters.

In fact, Gallup poll in late March 2010 revealed that 28% of Americans have a positive perception of the Tea Party movement.

A Televised Birth of a Movement

CNBC's Rick Santelli is widely credited with launching the grassroots movement. While standing on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange on February 19, 2009, he unleashed what can only be called a rant against the Obama Administration's proposal to help homeowners facing foreclosure refinance their mortgages."

You're not going to find any real links, because the tea parties started as a result of Obama being elected; tea parties protest Obama's policies, not Bush's.

I recall widespread frustration with the 'bailouts' from Republicans, Democrats and Independents.

These were the People whose vigilance resulted in "taxed enough already" and the tea party.

I can't find any documented proof that the movement took the name "TEA party" before Feb 09. I clearly recall how FOX and all other media outlets tried to ignore it until it became so big they couldn't. So, they hi-jacked it.

But the People, the purpose, the determination and more were all the same right up until the agenda-driven media clouded things.

Wikipedia incorrectly states that the first tea party protests started in 2009, then actually CITES an article written in 2007!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_protests
(See bottom of page)

"^ Smith, James F. (December 16, 2007). "Ron Paul's tea party for dollars - 2008 Presidential Campaign Blog - Political Intelligence". Boston.com. http://www.boston.com/news/politics/poli...tea_p.html Retrieved 2010-04-27."

@ everyone
"2009" MY A$$!!!

IT WAS STARTED BY RON PAUL SUPPORTERS IN 07 AND CONTINUED THROUGH 08, I WAS F***ING THERE.

We were using the name Tea Party to describe protests which were predominantly about monetary policy and opposition to the wars (non-interventionism).

I was also out there educating people about the CFR and the fact that almost all the presidential candidates from 2008 were members.

I'm sorry that so many of you are so gullible and wrong. Perhaps you shouldn't just believe everything the media and Wikipedia tell you.

2009 was the year when the failing GOP began to adopt some libertarian positions, and Fox News began to lie and take credit for the whole "tea party" phenomenon, with all the MSM placing clownish imps like Sarah Palin on pedestals, etc. etc. etc. you know the rest.

Reality Check: Glenn Beck was implying Ron Paul supporters were "terrorists" back in 2007. Now he claims to be a libertarian. Gimme a break.

Ron Paul supporters had their tea bag protest. But the first national rallies were organized by Sean Hannity to coincide with his book tour. FOX built the tea party movement nationally - but ideologically they have been around since the 50's. First named the the Patrick Henry Society, later called the John Birch Society - now called the Tea Party. All the same beliefs systems and support of right wing conservatism. To claim they are a special interest group advocating lower taxation is a profoundly naive lie. If that were true then their literature would actually address the technicality of income tax. Instead their platform is built upon Obama bashing, dreaming up ways to accuse liberals of being traitors, corporate tax relief and right wing Christian Coalition values.
